the next big thing

Until Jesus is enough for you, nothing will ever be.

If something as serious, sacrificial, and selfless as God sending Jesus to die in place of you – isn’t enough – you will never be satisfied.

We are always looking for the next big thing.. what will come next. We keep seeking after things that are temporary- expecting them to fulfill us – yet they end up disappointing us. The financial situation, the relationship, friendship; the job, house, kids. It’s always “well, what’s next”. What if there is no next? What if all were taken away from you. It’s just you in this world + you have to figure out who you are. You can’t be that sport. You can’t be that alcohol. You can’t be that makeup artist. You can’t be that million dollar business owner. You can’t have that house. So who are you? What would your purpose be? What would define you? Where would you find your joy & contentment?

It’s as if we don’t have the most perfect, consistent, all-knowing, peace giver, joy provider, and eternal lover in front of us. Yet He is all around us.

If the most beautiful love story doesn’t fulfill or satisfy you – you will never be fulfilled or satisfied. All that your looking for is being found in the wrong places.

Lemme get real with y’all for a second. Jesus wasn’t enough for me two years ago. I was always looking. If it wasn’t in my boyfriend at the time, I’d be trying to look for it somewhere else. I wasn’t happy with my life because I felt like I was missing out on something; like I wasn’t on the same timeline as everyone else. I felt like I had to have this car, with this much money, and with this boyfriend. Reality check : even if I got what I wanted; I would still be looking for what’s next. boyfriend -> fiancé -> husband -> house -> kids -> new car -> new job -> more kids -> now what..? Sound familiar? Always looking for next thing? The next season?

Long story short, we will eventually run out. We will run out of things to turn to because nothing in this world is meant to give us meaning and life and purpose other than our Lord and Savior Jesus.

“But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:19 KJV

God is good at being God. And we need to stop trying to be God – or one up Him. We can’t prove Him wrong. He is all that you are searching for… peace, hope, love, satisfaction, fulfillment, purpose.. Sounds cliché, but seriously. If we start looking at the One instead of what’s next, maybe we’d more joyous. More peaceful. More hopeful. Feel more loved. He will supply to us all that we need – which includes all that we long for. Not what we want, rather what we need.

Hope. Peace. Love. Kindness. Presence. Fulfillment. Joy.

So what’s the next big thing? Realizing that Jesus is enough. Until that happens – the next big thing won’t ever be enough. Nothing.

Because it’s all about Him / not about us. Because it’s all about His glory + name / not about ours. Because it’s all about where He is calling us / not where we want to be. Because it all comes back to Him /

Lord Jesus, empty our souls so only You can fill us up. There is nothing around us that will complete us like You will. It’s not meant to. It’s never been meant to. You have been it from the beginning – and I thank You for never giving up on us. You are the next best thing. You are the best thing. And I can’t wait to continue to live this best life with You, Jesus, who fills me up.

It is never about Jesus if it’s always about us.

I pray that The Lord may speak to you through me, I can only hope I can help you in your relationship with Christ.
