To be honest, I’m exhausted. My life right now is soo busy. Like so busy, that I am, convictingly, getting out of tune with my time with the Lord. In another words, life is taking over and I’m allowing it to. But this is what I’m reminding myself:
I shouldn’t be working God around my schedule.
I should be working my schedule around God.
It gets hard when we feel like we are just too busy to enter the presence of the Lord. I will be the first to tell you that its hard. But that doesn’t mean it’s not possible. If that includes waking up earlier or going to sleep later to spend time with the Lord, do it. If you have to postpone a date or wait a couple days to hangout with your friends, do it. Whatever you have to do to spend time with Him, do it.
Depending on how important something is to you, will determine how important it is to make time for it. If the gym is important to you, you’ll make time to go. If your boyfriend/girlfriend is important to you, you will spend time with them. When we care about certain things, we make time for it. And it should be the same way with the Lord. The last thing He needs to be, is an exclusion. All honestly, He should be first + top priority.
Something my Pastor used to say is this, “if you have time to sit on your phone for an hour, you have time to read your Bible for five minutes”. Convicting, but true. We can spend so much time doing insignificant things, that we miss the MOST significant thing. You have to create a balance between these two. You have to determine which is more important; what the world is doing, or your spiritual health.
I can tell when I’m in sync with the Lord and when I’m not. If I lack patience, get irritated quickly, fall into temptation, doubt my worth, or start gossiping, I know something isn’t right. That’s when the Spirit reveals to me… “Brayclyn, you need to rest. You need to breathe and get back in sync with me. I need you to stay in my presence. Take care of yourself”. I’m sure you can relate. There are things that may trigger you and that’s when you realize you haven’t cared for yourself spiritually. Self-care is important. But it’s useless if we’re not taking care of ourselves in a spiritual manner.
We can get our nails done every two weeks, do face masks, get our hair done, and take baths..and still not feel refreshed. We can eat so well and workout as much as we want… and still not feel healthy. We can come home from work, take naps, relax, and watch movies….and still not feel rested. There is only so much the world can provide, until we realize we need what God provides. When we enter into the presence of the Lord to receive our rest, is when things start to change. This is not saying our circumstances change, but our heart does.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
The Lord is saying COME. Come to me all (including you) who are weary and burden. COME, to Jesus, whose arms are open wide. He promises He WILL give you rest; and He doesn’t break promises. (; Jesus isn’t telling them to hide, to depart, or to look somewhere else. He is strictly telling you to c o m e.
TAKE. Take what I have, take the gentleness and humbleness I have, for your soul. Get rid of whatever is draining you and weighing you down, and TAKE ME. After you have come to Jesus, take His hand. Take what He has to offer, take that rest. For what He carries is easy, and His burden is light. Don’t just go to Him and stare at Him. Take Jesus and run with Him. Literally spend your life dancing with Him. (He is the BEST dance partner).
Jesus is saying this to the unbelievers, to the ones who haven’t repented of their sins and are turned from God (Matthew 11:20-24). He is giving these promises to the people who didn’t have anything in their life, spiritually talking. And He is saying the same thing to you, friend. When you spiritually are lacking, where you feel like you have fallen off and have turned from God; repeat this verse to yourself. Remind yourself that Jesus said those same words to people in the same situation as you. Jesus didn’t ignore these people who were far from God. He instead spoke promises over them – telling them to COME and TAKE. + He is saying the same thing to you, right now.
God has the rest that we need and the rest that we’re looking for. We have to be willing to take what He is offering. I challenge you to spend some time with Him. Even if it’s for 10 minutes. Just turn your phone off, shut your door, take a deep breath, and spend time with Him. I think I’m going to do this, right now, with ya. Beloved, breathe + give yourself rest.
It is never about Jesus if it’s always about us.
I pray that The Lord may speak to you through me, I can only hope I can help you in your relationship with Christ.
